For the September issue, which also marks the magazine’s 13th anniversary, Editor-in-Chief, Vanessa Satten traveled to Belize for an exclusive one-on-one interview with Shyne Po. Shyne is a rapper who took the fall for Diddy in 2001.
It is alleged that on December 27, 1999, Shyne, along with Combs and then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, was involved in a shooting at a Manhattan club which left three people injured. As a result the 21-year-old rapper, whose debut album was pending release, was charged with attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment.
On prison: “I looked at bein’ in the pen for 10 joints as my opportunity to concentrate, to get things in perspective. And I never let it devastate me, although it was devastating, because I never thought I was gonna be in jail for 10 years. I thought I was gon’ make a bail. I thought I was gon’ get my shit reversed. I’m terribly optimistic.”
On Diddy: “I don’t know whether he was nervous, afraid,” Shyne says of Puffy. “When you’re afraid and you’re emotional, that’s a different survival tactic. Those are the people that do anything, regardless of character and integrity, to preserve and protect themselves, regardless of who they hurt.
I guess maybe that was the situation. Never been in a situation like that, where he facing years, and he got hundreds of millions and all that shit at stake. But where I’m from, doesn’t matter. You lose everything for your comrade. Again, if you’re in battle, I’ll catch a bullet, too. It ain’t like, Yo, he’s dead. Don’t make no sense for me to die, too. Nah, I’ma die, too! So you hope or you take for granted that all men are the same. But I know all men are not.”
SHYNE MAY RECENTLY HAVE BEEN RELEASED FROM PRISON BUT HIS SHACKLES SEEM TO BE PERMANENT....
Miss Info from Hot97 has reported on her website that Angie Martinez has confirmed that ex-Bad Boy, rapper Shyne will in fact be deported to Belize. As previously reported, Shyne’s father who is Prime Minister of Belize had reached out personally to Governor Paterson on behalf of his son. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to enough. Miss Info reports that Shyne “will be released from Immigration custody but will then be deported to Belize soon”.
The rapper was released from an upstate New York prison last month after serving nearly 9 years for his involvement in a club shootout with Diddy and Jennifer Lopez in 1999.

“After serving eight-and-a-half years of a 10 year sentence for his role in the infamous Club New York shooting on December 27, 1999, Shyne finally knows the day he will once again become a free man: October 6, 2009. That release date has already been confirmed by the parole board, but a hearing tomorrow will outline the parameters of ‘Po’s parole, details that could determine whether or not the former Bad Boy Records artist will be able to resume his recording career free of stifling restrictions….”

“What happened was when they sentenced him [in March of 2001 to ten years] they didn’t sentence him to any parole – post release supervision, which was mandatory. So the Correction Department has asked the court to re-sentence him – under the law they can do that,” explained Shyne’s attorney, Oscar Michelen, to Thepcscoop. “And so the judge will decide whether to give him the maximum parole, which is five years, or the minimum parole, which is two-and-a-half years.”
Now, according to our secret sources, the parole decision will determine Shyne’s ability to leave the state which then impacts whether he is able to make a living as an artist (touring, recording, etc)….but, is there still a freeze on Shyne's bank accounts because of the unresolved civil suits related to the Club New York incident? And did those suits ever get resolved on the Diddy side?
